The Gift of Grief Support Group began meeting in July 2002 with the purpose of helping those who had lost loved ones claim the promise of Jesus in Matthew 6:5:  “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”  Founder and facilitator, Loretta A. Pawlus, has earned a Certification in Thanatology through the Association for Death Education and Counseling.  This outreach ministry is dedicated to the memory of her firstborn son, Mark Anderson Jeffus, who left this earth on November 20, 1986, and is the result of her determination that he would not have died in vain.

Mrs. Pawlus offers support through a healthy grieving process, including a loving and accepting time for sharing during which group participants eventually help each other embrace their grief, acknowledge ways in which their lives have changed, and grow spiritually as they make the transition into a new life.

The title of the group refers to our God-given ability to experience sorrow with the realization that one can learn to live joyfully again by developing new relationships with those who have already entered eternity.

This support group is open to the community; and Mrs. Pawlus is available for speaking engagements.    She may be reached at lorettaanderson1@austin.rr.com.
